SpaceX splashdown: Dozens of boats including one with Trump flag circle around Nasa astronauts as they return to Earth

Dozens of boats appear to have circled around Nasa astronauts as they dropped to Earth at the end of a pioneering mission.

The large numbers of small craft appeared to be dangerously close to the Crew Dragon carrying the astronauts as it splashed down into the ocean after dropping from space.

One of the numerous people who had apparently sailed to watch the splashdown was carrying a Trump flag, which was clearly visible on the official live feed.

Footage shows large numbers of boats swarming around the area where the capsule landed.

It is not clear how so many people were able to get so close to the craft, which was dozens of miles from shore in the Gulf of Mexico, or what danger they could have caused.

The astronauts’ capsule was taken out of the sea by SpaceX‘s Go Navigator sh...

Trump news – live: Top Democrat compares president to Mussolini as White House admits it is 'very concerned' over coronavirus deaths rising

The White House coronavirus task force has warned that deaths will continue to spike within the next several weeks as the nation responds to a “new phase” of the pandemic that has gripped both rural and urban areas despite scrutiny from health experts that the administration failed to respond to the crisis at its onset.

Donald Trump has meanwhile issued a rare direct rebuke of the nation’s leading infectious disease expert Dr Anthony Fauci, whom the president said is “wrong” to blame the surging public health crisis on the nation’s failure to shut down its economy.

A vote to secure the president’s nomination for his re-election could be held privately without members of the press later this month, for the first time in modern history...

BBC criticised after airing Lucy Worsley use of n-word in American History's Biggest Fibs

The BBC has received criticism for airing the n-word without censorship for the second time in a week.

On Saturday 1 August, American History’s Biggest Fibs with Lucy Worsley, which covers the US confederacy and the history of slavery, aired on BBC2.

During a walkthrough of the time, Worsley covers the reaction to president Abraham Lincoln’s speech in 1865, which declared that black people should have the right to vote.

John Wilkes Booth, the confederacy supporter who went on to assassinate Lincoln days later, was enraged by the declaration, she explains.

Speaking to the camera, Worsley tells the audience: “He said, and his words carry a health warning, ‘That means n****r citizenship. By God, that’s the last speech he will ever make’.”

The clip, which first aired on...
